The Future of Discipleship
In the early days of Christianity when the apostles were still alive, the focus of discipleship was one of doing the legwork. The early apostles and then the Christian fathers who followed them would travel from town to town speaking to groups of believers and nonbelievers alike. In fact, a large portion of the New Testament is simply letters that the Apostle Paul wrote to different churches. Such letters helped to inform the future of Christianity and lead churches to different ways of believing.
Each epistle from Paul is directed specifically at a certain church or churches, but the messages tend to be applied in a broader sense. There is a belief throughout the global Christian community that when you are bringing a message inspired by scripture, it can apply specifically as well as broadly. For example, Paul’s letters to Corinth are meant to be read specifically by the church at Corinth, but the messages have resonated for thousands of years with the community at large. The same can be true of messages are received today. A believer or a nonbeliever tends to find the message they need at the moment they need it.
Here in the 21st century, doing actual legwork is still important, but the global community has grown so much larger. Writing letters or emails is still an important way to reach people, but videos have also revolutionised discipleship. Christian films in the UK are often created for a specific purpose. Such films are often made to reach a certain constituency.
However, as with every message deeply rooted in the scripture, these DVDs are also made for a broader consumption. A message that is meant for a specific church audience or a specific day might also appeal to someone from halfway around the world. If you are looking for spiritual guidance, you should definitely consider buying DVDs from other believers.
The 21st century has transformed discipleship in more ways than just allowing speakers to preach to a camera. The global Christian community has access to DVDs and videos that touch on dozens of different subjects. When you get your hands on a Christian DVD, you will be able to spread its message to as many people as you can. Spreading the Word is the great commission, and DVDs is an efficient way to do such work.
Anything done to efficiently spread the Word is definitely a way of upholding the great commission. Whether you are from the UK and feel disconnected from your home community or if you’re just outside of a large community, you don’t have to be isolated. With the advent of the many different kinds of technology available nowadays, you can stay engaged in a faith community even if it is hundreds of kilometres away.
Christian DVDs are great since they allow you to connect with faith leaders from around the world. Just as the letters to Corinth were meant for Corinthians, but are still applied globally, Christian DVDs from one part of the world can apply to your life as well as the lives of others.
